I finished 60% of this book before DNF-ing it. It attempts to characterize the decolonization of 40+ countries over the span of 40 years. In doing so the book is unfocused, and you are in constant head-jerk mode comparing these former colonies. I wish the topic was focused on specific locales for the entirety of the book. Or focused on the political atmosphere of the metropoles and these newly independent nations.
