Then again, she passed when she got her entire squadron killed, so...

What does that headset look like? And how can it track eye movement? There's no mention of a visor, or glasses.

What do you mean she wasn't logged in? Weren't they chatting through the game? I'm pretty sure the author has never actually played video games.

Why does she keep calling these guys aliens? There's nothing alien about them.

Mmm... If I was training pilots, and one got her entire squad killed in a simulation, I wouldn't consider that a success.

You know, here would have been a nice place to put a description of the guy, but no. That doesn't bode well.

I find it ludicrous that she can build an avatar that looks exactly like a real person. That's pretty much impossible. Now, if you told me that se chose the guy from a bunch of premade characters, now that's something I can believe. Because they would have real trainers to help trainees. That they would let the trainees choose their trainer is a stretch too, but less than what the book has.
