What I'm also enjoying about this book is how Hansen is working with subplots he's already tackled in different ways. We're gearing up for a climatic ending. Will it go in a similar fashion to the last mystery? We'll see.

Whelp, Hetzel is as much a piece of work as I expected him to be. Again, his ideology can easily be reflected today with alt right people. I also haven't seen a pro Vietnam perspective before, so I'm happy Hansen elaborated on that.

We're now starting to learn about the white supremacist group this edition's blurb teases. Vaughn, the victim, was getting recruited, much to the chagrin of Dallas, one of the prime suspects who was married to the former's partner, who has gone on the run. The casual racism the side characters are showing here is mind-boggling. It goes to show how this could be unchallenged in small towns now.

I’m surprised Cecil was the one who got Dave involved in this case since he pushed the latter to officially retire in the last book. Does it have to do with proximity, given the victim worked at the news station the former is a part of?
