Was temporarily excited to learn there is still a Marcionite church out there and was pretty immediately disappointed to learn they don't acknowledge an evil creator. What's the point then??

This WORKS. I would love a Christianity like this. Two gods, opposed. One, the wicked creator, made the world & humanity; the other a true God saves humans from the evil creator by playing him at his own game and making the ultimate sacrifice. At the final judgement, the creator will demand the humans he made as his own to torture in hell but Jesus can stand there and say "No, I bought them all from you." Beautiful.

Footnote 80 betrays the usual contradiction: that Jesus' death was intended to happen from the very beginning, yet everyone involved in ensuring this mission ends the way it is supposed to is condemned. If the only way people are saved is through the cross, then Judas is a saint and foremost Apostle; the Marcionite evil creator should not be condemned but commended for doing his part.

Deeply amusing that they are contrasting Ephesians 4:26 with the story of Joshua 10 and the sun not setting until the battle is done, as the battle could be taken as a very literal interpretation of Eph 4:26: don't let the sun set on your rage? Well, why not! Let's hold the sun in the sky until all that rage is spent!

Gnostic traditions is a wild area of Christian historical studies. Fascinating in so many ways. So far it’s a fun read
