Status Updates From The Secrets of Star Whales

This is just so cute and bittersweet all at once. Truly loving this little book.

I'm reading this from our lovely library and oh man, I already want my own copy.

The students have the adventure of a lifetime. Max can call the Star Whales with his music, which he plays on his decivox. Only children can see the Star Whales. The Star Whales provide the element that the asteroid miners are mining! Max's mom knew they were in their area and were protecting them! Bad guys appear and the kids and Mr. Hames are the heroes. Max finally understands what happened with his Dad.

Max's mom records all starship activity around the space station and asteroids that they mine. Mr. Hames becomes the teacher for the twelve-year-old students. He tries to make friends with Max but it all goes wrong because of misunderstandings about Max's dad. Star Whales is what most of the story is about. There are whalers who are searching for a star whale. The students ban together to help Mr. Hames.

This story takes place on a small space station, Azura. Maxion Belmont and India are good friends. He loves music and engineering. His father died two years ago in an explosion. The space station hasn't had visitors in years, so when a foreign starship appears, everyone is excited. Mr. Hames is the captain and lone passenger on the starship. Why he has come to Azura is a mystery at this point.
