You know a creature-feature book is good when you finally get to the part where bodies are flying through the air and the yelling and screaming begin to take on a Batman comic flavor. 💕🎉🎈👌🏼
This is what makes summer reading fantastic!

Lost count and one of my fav sideline characters bit the dust. Okay, not accurate - got bitten for him. This is going to be a messy little National park when it’s all over. Great summer read!!!

✅ and three camo-wearing, heavy-geared merc types appeared out of nowhere to join the jungle mix

For a small rainforest park, it’s getting crowded in there.

By this time, as an astute reader, you have to be counting the extras because the body count, otherwise you might miss someone. Also, it’s fun having the whole park full of Bozos looking for the same BFP! I love it when writers let their characters create acronyms for the monsters they hunt!

Lots of people. Maybe a too many.
But lots of them are shady characters pretending to be “good”.
Or perhaps they are Star Trek-esque red shirts.🤭

Interesting how in many “that guy” books the women tend to be a more hard-nosed than “that guy”.
This book has two of these women who are/were involved with “that guy” and wouldn’t you know it? He’s handled them both badly.

Always painful when the known “eaten” is confirmed.
Damn.

Treachery hiding on all sides in this one.

And the sentimentality is handled gracefully patching up years of animosity.
Great way to bring all the characters together, laying a clear path for the reader to follow.

“Big new problem”?🤣🤣🤣

Brothers…crazy brothers.
And a crazy father.
And crazy stories.
Lots of crazies.
Lots of crazy shit going on.

Fight scenes right up there either J.Maberry and Greig Beck.

Jump scares.
You know they’re coming but they still get you if the lines are written well.
🤣

So glad to find another creature feature by Alan Baxter and David Wood to continue my Summer Beasts Tour!
And—drum roll please — Alan promised me there’s a small nod to his own chintzy horror, The Roo, which is still my favorite campy creature horror.
And another plus? This is a Sam Aston book. Great character investigating oddity mysteries.
