and afaik usa prison and police is built on slavery and generally viewing black and brown folks as less so...so yes, it affects them way more than if you're lily white like me lol

it's not a black and white question definitely, especially in usa where especially black people get tossed into prisons for life for the tiniest mistakes. i don't know enough about other countries except my own but like.. my country is the size of a flea compared to usa so it's not something i could compare.

i understand that prisons rarely actually rehabilitate the prisoners but also.. some people genuinely can't be rehabilitated. im against the death penalty too but there isn't much i can say or think to justify keeping people like Jeffrey Dahmer alive.

ive been fascinated about the thought of abolishing prisons ever since i heard it... then i learned what usa prison system is like and yeah, that tracks. so i hope, despite how short this book is, she goes into detail what's the alternative.

Terminé el capítulo 6, muy lúcido. Abolicionismo sin recuestionamiento del castigo como respuesta predominante y penal, social y jurídica, o como expresión del malestar por la ruptura (por parte de la mitificada figura del "delincuente criminal") de unas normas comunitarias (pocas veces lo son): pocas leches. Me encantó, solo me hubiera gustado encontrarme tbel sesgo heternonormativo del sistema industrial-carcelario
