I get that this is a book about being a girl of color, but the way that is worded was very off. Many of the comments about being a person of color feel like they were dropped in.

This book fascinates me. The way the girls connect feels a bit rushed.

The fact that neither the teacher or Asher got any known consequences... I think that was done on purpose... because given the world that we live in, it would be too far off from what actually happens.

This “book of secrets” getting ‘taken’ … unfortunately is not a surprise.
To be honest, I don’t know a single woman that didn’t grow up writing things like this with their friends.
Even I did it, and if my “book of secrets” got out I would be SICK, too.

Awww, now why would they vandalize that woman's store?
Triflin.

I don't see the issue with disliking someone that makes an ignorant or racist remark. If they can be hateful enough to speak on their strong feelings, others have the right and reason to not want to associate with them. Age and maturity can be factors, but some point even a teenager understands that what they say cannot be taken back.
Some times people feel exactly as they present themselves--especially if ignorant.

It's sad how instantly panic and fear grip you when something hits close to home. "it could have been me" turns to paranoia relief and 'it should have been you' is the thought of many. All based on a name?
We live in a sad world... fictional book or not.
