Reading these collections chronologically is really useful in contextualizing the cultural moments that brought them about. Not that it helps understanding the majority of what’s going on, but still.

There are so many all-timers in the second collection here. I particularly love the more explicitly political stuff.

On to book 2, and I can already tell that reading Barthelme chronologically is going to make me see his work differently.

This will carry me through the rest of the year. Barthelme has always felt appropriate for the holidays, somehow.
