3 stars. I don't know, definitely didn't enjoy this much as I wanted to.

Tyler, of course, met her halfway. “Jules, what are you—"
She held up a hand. “You were the princess all along. You were there for me and loved me, and I missed it.
"Did you say I'm a princess?"
She nodded. "And I'm the twitty prince."

I get what you're doing here with the genderswapped Princess and The Frog, but.....I really don't get what you're doing here with genderswapping.

He shrugged. “That's a shame. You have Auntie N. I could go on and on. You lean on everyone, and they love you so much they even allow you to pretend you don't need any of them. But that's not
true. You put your trust in everyone, Jules. Just"—he swallowed back the pain of telling himself the truth again—"not me."

Well, at least the angst is good.

"No one ever gets close enough again no matter how much you love them."

This is something I find really manipulative. Like, it really feels like he's putting words in her mouth. Think about this for a second, what if he wasn't the love interest, but the asshole ex-boyfriend, and said this.

“How's your dad?"
“Hungover. All is right with the world. But hey, at least he has a shiny house and brand new sheets."

Ah, angst is what I'm here for.

"Love is certainly never safe, but it's absolutely worth it,"[...] Heck, Dani Brown was her idol, but this wasn't fiction. Tyler Pace was a real man, a real threat to her tender and patched up heart. And in the real world, Jules knew all too well, when hearts broke, they were messy and left damage in their wake.

I hate to break this to you Jules, but this is fiction.

It actually was that bad. I would know, because I was there, and I had to listen to this. Or read this. Whatever.

After he'd teased her all the way to the edge and gently brought her back down, Tyler tore open the wrapper and protected them both.

At this point I had to stop and rethink some of my life decisions, because of all the ways this sex scene could have been made...well, sexy, the words 'protected them both' was maybe not one of them. The cringe was strong in this one.

This book references Take A Hint, Dani Brown so much.....also, did she just say they should have sex?!?! Like, what!??! I thought the plan was to stay away from each other?!!? Also, what about the daughter, where is she sleeping?!?

Oh, is he going to save her?? That's cool, but I still don't like the speed of this. How you manage to make a childhood friends to lovers seem instalove is beyond me.

This is too fast. I don't like this.

novels took place in small towns. They were special and got away with kitschy ice cream shop names like Happy Cones. [...]Jules got it, but somehow the romance of her town had never wrapped its magic around her. Maybe if she and Wayne had lived 118 Bodega? The thought of it made her laugh.

I want to know more about her fishing business. Also, in the interest of complete honesty, I want to state that I had a very big misconception about this, namely that this was a) not set in the present time, and b) about pirates. I have no idea how this happened, I will explore more in the review.
