Lowkey thought this was gonna be more of a general blueprint of how people become more authoritarian and less of a bunch of personal anecdotes relating to the author but I'm okay with it

The far left and right are united by there cynicism towards democratic institutions, where noted transgressions and corruption is taken as a sign that the system itself should be abandoned and an idea that there is an equivalency between autocratic states such as the Russia, and democracies like the USA.
