But when Virginia says it, in the same low, urgent voice she uses for Compline prayers, it sounds like something a serious person can feel.

End of part 1.
Im interested to see where this goes. I actually really like Brad and Laura’s friendship. Ive come to appreciate her thoughts more compared to the first 20 pages in this book. Shes mellowed out and isnt a fanatic (kind of) over the academy. She doesnt want to accept anything else except webster’s ideologies but she doesnt shut them completely down. It’s interesting knowing most of the choir

i seriously hope virginia won't obsss over reverend tipton and drags laura around everywhere to find ways to get tipton's attention. virginia is an archetype but i imagined it her more as the type to feel superior and right in everywhere because she excels in her studies and extracurriculars with a dash of being a religious zealot. I did not expect her to follow the trope of underaged girl lusting after older man.

"Half her head is shaved. The other half is pink. She's wearing scuffed leather boots held together with duct tape. She's grinning."
Of course her head is shaved. Of course her hair is dyed pink. Of course she's wearing scuffed leather boots held together by duct tape. of course a character like her would interrupt a sacred session in such a rude sanctimonious way. it's all so...middle school plot.

this is the nth time where im reminded i gotta stop reading books where the main characters are teens/minors. its def because i have a bias but on the other handdd these dark academia type books try too hard i feel like. these characters feel like archetypes, caricatures, one dimensional, etc etc. these characters don't feel real.

"Not that I care," Bonnie cuts her off. "I hate money."
okay this is giving very rich privileged white girl who wants to sound humble and not show off that she's rich but she sounds completely tone-deaf by saying she just hates money.

Reading virginia, bonnie, and isobel’s ideals sounds like twitter arguments come to life. Virginias purity and sanctity of evensong. Bonnie’s instagram personified character with pretentious talks of sexuality and the way she acts. Isobel’s preaching of feminism, utilizing buzzwords, hating everyone because their morals are wrong except hers- and mirandas.
