Reading How Do You Live - Chapter 3
Copper invited his best friends, Mizutani and Kitami, to his house. The three of them played all sorts of games. Then Copper took the role of a commentator on the radio, playing a broadcast of a baseball game between Waseda and Keio. The game ended with Keio being the victor. As a fan of Waseda, Kitami hurled himself towards Copper, and they tangled and laughed together.

Finished How Do You Live - Uncle's Notebook - On True Experience
Copper's uncle was proud of Copper sticking with Uragawa. He told Copper that human experience was part of life's great journey, and he must find the answer for himself instead of learning it from school. After that, Copper should always listen to his heart and remember what moved him deeply. And did things according to what he truly believed.

Finished How Do You Live - Chapter 2
There was one event called the Fried Tofu Incident when Uragawa became a laughing stock during the drafting of a class assembly. Kitami stood up for him and had a go with his bully, Yamaguchi. Reading How Do You Live - Chapter 2
A clumsy, poor classmate of copper was then introduced: Uragawa. He was either good at his schoolwork or at physical education. He was also from a low-income family, so there was a huge gap in background between him and his affluent classmates. Since he wasn't up to par in school, he was always getting teased. He just received the latest nickname, Fried Tofu.

Reading How Do You Live - Chapter 2
The start of this chapter introduced two of Copper's closest friends. Mizutani and Kitami. Mizutani was slender and good-looking, was always a calm presence, and had a sort of girlish shyness, but Kitami was the exact opposite. He was stubborn as a rock; once something he had set in his mind, it could not be changed, no matter what. That was where his nickname Gatchin came from.

Finished Uncle's notebook - on ways of looking at things
So copper's name came from the great astronomer and mathematician, Nicolaus Copernicus. When copper thought of himself, he was only a molecule among the sea of human society. This way of thinking was like Copernicus's philosophy, where you removed the sense of self to look at things outside of your own perspective, so you could glimpse truth.
