He had never heard of Oz because he was only a couple of days old. He asked if he could go, hoping that the Great Wizard can give him brains. He knew that he was ignorant and he wanted to do something about it. Toto wasn’t thrilled but the scarecrow was not afraid. A dog couldn’t hurt straw. Only fire could do that.

He hung in the air with a stick up his back. She took a closer look after he winked at her. She struck up a conversation with him and she surprised if he could speak. He told her he is not well because he cannot move and he asked her to bring him down. She did. Like Pinocchio, he was aware of being made once his first ear was painted. He was not rude like the puppet. He asked where she was headed and she told him Oz.

The next morning she ate a hearty breakfast and Toto entertained the Munchkins who had never seen a dog, She asked how far is the City of Emeralds, but nobody knows. Part of the road is too dangerous for them to travel. She said goodbye and got back on the yellow brick road. She passed a cornfield with a scarecrow and it winked at her. He looked liked every other scarecrow in Kansas but dressed in blue.

The richest Munchkin in the land was hosting a feast with food, music, and dancing and he invited Dorothy to join the merry celebration. He saw her silver shoes and the white in her dress and called her a sorceress. The story of her role in killing the witch had already spread far and wide. Because her dress also had blue, he called her a friendly witch. She slept soundly at the house while they danced all night.

She put her slices of bread in her basket and covered it with a white cloth. She went out the door, locked it, and put the key in her pocket and they were off to see the wizard. She soon found the yellow brick road and began to see farms with blue fences. They were bursting with good food. It was merry like when Bilbo or Frodo left home on their adventure. She grew tired by evening and stopped at a big house.
