Why does this book rely so heavily on waxing poetic and outright stating concepts, like womanly freedom and societal expectations set upon women, especially mothers??
Does symbolism and implications mean nothing, Yoder? It would make it much more powerful that way.

Did we just learn about the meaning of patriarchy and the divide of gender, author? Because you won’t stop mentioning it now, and it’s starting to get on my nerves :)

“Of course, she knew that the concept of ‘the hysterical woman’ itself was itself a sexist creation, and she rejected the label altogether, but she also made sure no one would ever associate her with such a label to begin with” (Yoder 50).
Wow — so riveting. If you read this book, get ready for more long sentences and concepts like this!
Seriously, only a quarter of this book should exist at this point.

This is so long-winded, like the author wanted to emulate old literature with long, extravagant words and lots—and I mean lots—of commas to make sentences longer.
But there is an astonishing amount of talk of feces—the son’s, the cat’s, and so on—for such a book that wants so hard to be classic literature.
