reading this along with the medici book is an interesting experience - the book also goes in detail about donatello's creative process even describing the method of crafting broze statues.

despite the clear laws, very few people were burned for sodomy, most received much lighter sentances like a fine or exile, and the majority was probably simply dropped due to protection from patrons. and someone like donatello would never even be prosecuted due to his friendship with cosimo. and he never was, despite the gossip.
