I think the title fits very well because it describes Osceola. Even though we have no idea at first that it is talking about him throughout the story he starts to fit this mood set by the title. He slowly surpasses the men above him and becomes the leader of the Indian forces in Florida.

I really dislike the settlers in this section because the Indians came to them once again in a peaceful manner in order to try and end the war but they gunned them down. When it was the other way around the Indians greeted them and where very hospitable. If only the settlers would stop and think about what they are doing.

If I were Colonel Pearce at this point, I would go alone and talk to Osceola. He is the only one the Indians trust and refuse to hurt so I would talk to them and try to convince them to end the war so we could be at peace once more.

This part is very realistic because different Indian leaders and tribes had different war woops. In this scene, the settlers are able to identify how many leaders are there at this battle. Of the three they are most intimidated by Osceola because of his masterful battle tactics. He is also very adaptive as we see when he uses the gun smoke to sneak up on the settlers and win the battle.

I really dislike this idea of killing the women, children, slaves, and others that the settlers are catching. If they really wanted to end the war why would they kill these innocent people? The could easily just hold them hostage or for ransom to encourage the surrender of the Indians.

Questions I have after reading are why the settlers are not asking for more backup. Yes, the have asked for some but they where from Northern Florida. Why aren't they asking neighboring states to help them with troops, supplies or anything. They are obviously not equipped nor experienced enough to beat the Indians. They are gonna need backup soon if they want to win this war.

I was furious when even though the peaceful Indians had a flag of surrender up the settlers still killed them. Not only did they surrender but they where all defenseless. I am guessing this was before war crimes existed because this is a prime example of one.

I cant believe that Osceola did not come and rescue Philip's son. He had the chance to but decided not to. Why is this? Also, I wonder why the slaves told the settlers where Philips camp was. He was so hospitable to them and they turn around and get him kill.

Something that I learned from my readings is that slave traders would get paid to retrieve slaves that tried to escape and join the Indians. The settlers did this because they started to grow weak due to their workers running away and helping the Indian forces grow stronger.

A prediction I have for what may happen next is that the settlers will try to talk about the peace treaty again but the Indians will think its a trick even though last time it was a miss understanding. I think that this will end in many casualties for the settlers.

I was surprised when I found out that the Indian mothers would kill baby's if they cried while the settlers where near by. I can see why they would do it but what if they mess up and the baby screams louder. I feel like there was a much better solution to this issue.

I think the setting is important because the swamp is a big form of protection for the Indians. The settlers are scared to enter the swamp because of the many dangerous animals. Even though they venture in a little to burn down Indian villages the women and children hide in the swamp way before the settlers arrive.

This section made me think about the fall of the Roman Empire because the Indians are cutting the supply routes so and then attacking the unsupplied bases. If the colonizers do not figure a way to stop this they will fall just like the Romans.

I felt sad when the Captains dog was injured. Even though it did not die like most of the men, the dog still lost his master and might lose his leg on top of that.

A reader that would like those book is a reader who enjoys learning about the Indian Culture or someone who is interested in fighting. This book has some pretty good fight scenes where the Indians us strategies to make it seem like there are a lot of Indians when there are only a few.

This situation reminds me of a similar situation in my own life. It happened when me and my siblings would be playing around and one of us would get beat by the other. We would then make the " I surrender" excuse and then attach when they were not expecting it. This is what I know is going to happen next.

The character I admire most is Osceola because he has been very mature the entire story. Even though both sides are beginning to slip away from each other Osceola seems to be the only one who is trying to keep them together. He respects the menon both sides and this really shows his character.

As I read, I felt very proud of the Indian tribe as a hold. They handled the whole situation of the colonist stealing their horses and cattle very well. They could have just started killing the settlers but Osceola Helped them realize how bad this would end and they agreed to his standards.

I think that General Thompson made a smart move when he gave Osceola the rife. Although Osceola is sceptical about which side the general is on this will hopefully give Osceola the reassurance that the general will be on his side when and if a battle or feud breaks out.

It seems like the hatred between the settlers and the natives is rising very swiftly due to the the settlers trying to take native land for farming. The settlers traveling to Florida for agriculture and a new life are killing any Native Americans they see which is a large contributor to the rising tension as well.
