The only thing that is more hilariously terrible than this book would be the concept album and full musical recording of Guy Fawkes the musical. Its so bad its funny.

Catesby, if you twirl your mustache any more, you run the risk of tearing it off. He does make for a hilariously one note villainous Gary Stu though. This is a book that keeps on giving when it comes to being so bad and historically inaccurate that it's hilarious.

Buddy reading with friends as it is the season for all things Fawkes and Gunpowder.

Now this is more like it. The dialogue is still pretty bad but at least we are now getting what I expected the book to be.

And now throw in a dash of cloak and dagger political intrigue and conspiracy theories while your at it.

Well Viviana is now being about as stupid as everyone else in this novel. I have no idea when in the time line we are anymore on account of most of the book so far has been dedicated to events that have little to no historical basis.

Viviana is a surprisingly good character. Her dialogue is the least ridiculous, and she is at least consistent.

A good 75% of the shenanigans that occur in this book happen because Robert Catesby has no chill. He's either trying to force Viviana to marry him because he refuses to take no for an answer, and nearly goes on quite a few murder sprees because he jumps to conclusions and decides killing people is the best course of action.

Exhibit a of the bad writing in this piece of pulp fiction: "What I, your worship?" Exclaimed Martin. "Not the slightest, I assure you. It was by mere chance I came this way, and perceiving some one tied to a tree, was about to take to my heels, when, fancying I recognized your worship's well formed legs, I ventured forth." Martin on why he has nothing to do with Catesby being tied to a tree.

This is absolutely ridiculous! I should hate it, but I love it. I was promised Gunpowder Plot but so far am getting plot contrivances, love square, Guy Fawkes being mostly dead and a wizard consulted to bring him back to life.

This book makes me hate Robert Catesby so much. He's basically a mustache twirling villain in this book. I think Viviana may be the only character with a somewhat functional brain in this book except for when she is fainting into the arms of various men due to the strength of her emotions or something.

Can this book please stop the Jesuit smere campaign. The priests were trying to convince the conspirators not to blow up Parliament, not cheering them on. In fact what the conspirators did was against the orders of the Pope to the Catholics in England at that time. This book can't make up its mind about any of these people.

Viviana, sweetheart, now why are you breaking up with the one man in this love square you actually love and is the only one not part of a plot to blow up Parliament? Oh right, he's a protestant and you're a Catholic.
