Sahlins suggests that Judeo-Christian doctrinal religiosity has a dualist stance, where God transcends and precedes nature. Imagistic religiosity is instead imminent in the material world, where spirits and gods are no different to animals. I find this interesting, because there seems to be a movement of modern Christians towards a more imminent relationship to their god, forgoing the dualist impersonal one.
