oh i am not in the right headspace for this book. all of you need to go to therapy right now

well, it's definitely not the book i expected it to be. it's painfully honest about what trying to be asian in a majority white area is like: it's lonely. people are horrid. parents give mixed advice about whether it's better to have community or to assimilate. it's isolating to be of a community but not speak the language. it's a book whose story i grew up living. i'm interested to know how it ends
