Chapter 1 brought me back to last week at the WWII Museum. I expected to learn about the US’s role, but the holocaust portion was Anne Frank and it felt like a narrowed focus on the one story everyone knows. I found the survivor and rescuer theater. I think this is going to be a book I update as I go, because my mind is already racing.
The introduction immediately hit me with relatability. The quiet, snide comments you don’t quite know how to respond to, and the strange feeling of absence. To me, it seems like real conversations only come in the wake of something overtly bad (like Bondi Beach). Being expected to react, but rarely being invited to speak.
