The total commercialization and commodification of culture leads to the destruction of community. The ‘community’ that is so frequently invoked on digital platforms is a commodified form of community. Community as a commodity spells the end of community.

We perceive things primarily with regard to the information embedded in them. When we purchase things, we buy and consume emotions. Products are charged with emotions by way of storytelling. What determines the value added is the distinguishing information that promises the consumer a special experience – or even the experience of specialness.

The handless human beings of the future only use their fingers. They choose rather than act. They push buttons in order to satisfy their needs. Their lives are not dramas in which they are compelled to act; their lives are play. They do not want to possess anything. They want only to experience and enjoy.
