It’s an interesting reading however the author seems very limited in her research regarding the true identity of the aboriginals of American and the origin Buddhism. She clings the narrative of black Americans coming from Africa while none are able to say exactly where in Africa they came.

However I’ve only gotten through the intro, will see as I read further in.

this book excels in other ways too but Vesely-Flad includes incredibly readable summaries of not only the key tenets of Black radical thought and the cornerstones of Buddhist philosophy (Four Noble Truths, anicca, etc.). If anyone needs a readable summary of either, I would read ch. 4 and 5 of this book

So excited to be reading this! I’ve always felt a gap btw the Buddhism I was taught, both the traditional version that somehow twists the Buddha’s words to center hierarchy & the mainstream American (White) Buddhism that boils down Buddhist philosophy into some philosophical rationality. I’m encouraged to see that this book already centers the interconnectedness of spiritual liberation & societal liberation.
