I have not yet met a woman who does not know or believe the church and vatican of archiac misogyny, even those in the church, its always the enormous elephant in the room. So again, logically, the exclusion of denegration of women over time is obvious, generally believed by most women unconsciously, simply by lived experience. This chapter made the most sense, smart women with power are scapegoated every single time.

Half way through, we finally get to the egyptians. Ghis was going to be my main criticism of the book, took so long to mention ancient greek's predecessors and certain influence/learnings.

The link between Dionysus to Jesus is compelling, far more so than the not so arguable link between drugs and religion/christianity. I figured they were all high or drunk in bible school, always at drunken parties so not so far fetched.

I appreciate the connected trail of proposed evidence. A postitive indicator is that the author loops in expertise across the sciences and humanities, to verify or frame into context areas that are beyond his discipline. This already tells me that he is acting in good faith. Sadly this is lacking in many of his detractors, whom, i suspect, feel a more emotional affront to his theory, rather than genuine disbelief.

wow this guy really loves beer...haha. spent so long on it...we get it. Some of it seems a bit of a stretch to me...confirming existence of beer, does not mean it was an inspiration for religions. I am enjoying the book's exploration so far though. I don't need to believe to consider the possibility.

It's always interesting to see how western academics theorize and research their way to the spirituality and mysticism their ancestors condemned and used as evidence to decimate and colonize entire continents.
Curious, eventually it all comes back to the same thing...yes, and?
What learnings beyond psychdelics is seen as so dangerous that death and murder is sanctioned by the supposed righteous authority??

"the tourists are out and about now, making it a little less pleasant..."
this made me chuckle. That relentless American entitlement ...I literally thought...but you're a tourist of the area too! Sure you have a notebook and a couple notable phone numbers to dial...but still.

I'm surprised (sarcasm) at the glaring omission of egyptian philosophy on the greek culture and socrates/platos thinking. Democracy was birthed in greece but conception was in egypt.
Enjoying the history revision on christianity detrimental impact on european ancient history. Greek or christian? Culture or religion? Spiritual guidance driven by the people or by a nameless, faceless God?
Good set up.
