Status Updates From Rootless

… I wish I could carry on but I can’t. It’s still a great book, definitely less exciting and enjoyable than the first time I read it but still great either way.

This is the part I’ve officially decided to stop read and not continue the book. I thought I could do it but it’s too heart-wrenching to want to experience that ending again. The book evoke enough emotion in me to feel deeply for the characters and to want to rewrite the storyline and republish the book…

“The only other vehicle they pass is a red and yellow taxi going the opposite way”. This made me groan audibly. I am conjuring up the will to finish this book because I know exactly what’s next. Years after first finishing the book it’s these last pages and the ending that I remember most vividly, enough to make me forget details about all the other pages in the book I’ve read.

“…A red taxi comes to a stop, its saffron panels streaked with rust. And as they drive, passing only one taxi as they go, Efe reminds herself she has time.” My heart hurts knowing how this ends and remembering who was in the other taxi. I feel like I can’t finish reading the book because if I don’t read it it’s like the ending doesn’t happen.

This is my second time reading this book and the only reason I don’t want to continue is because I know how it ends.
