She calls them rude and nasty but is glad to see something new. The wagon comes to a stop when they are hailed. Documents are checked to verify everything is inspected. Apparently, the Loser is angry. Once the night of miracles is over everything belongs to him. They are instructe to settle down and go to sleep. They are on their way to “Bother, It’s Gone.” I don’t understand how this will help them find DP.

Ch. 24 The stuff inside the lunchbox is the inhalor. The CP and Jack squeezed inside the smelly lunchbox with an egg salad inside. The lunchbox argues with them. CP and Jack make threats against the lunchbox and she threatens them back. CP is mean to them. The sheriff delivers good news. The lunchbox gets on the wagon and it moves off. The CP and Jack let go of the inhalor.

They hear a noise and they see black hats out in the street. Loss adjustors are coming into town. They are creating a new checkpoint because something that doesn’t belong is there. They ask the sheriff if he has seen anything suspicious. Uh, oh! Sheriff tells them about the odd toys he talked to. They have three to adjust (lunchbox, the stuff inside, and fingers). A bus pass, key, and passport are arrivals.

Ch. 23 CP scolds Jack for raising the sheriff’s suspicion. He actis like a boy who lost his toy. He’s worried that inspectors might start asking questions about the Pajama Boy cartoon. Meanwhile they are thinking of a plan. A cobweb stretches across the finding hole in the ceiling. Jack is too worried about DP to sleep. He and CP look outside. CP explains what alivening it. Alivening came to CP when he was chosen.

Sheriff talks about how children were different in his day when children had fewer toys. They passed Door 23 (where the lunchbox is). Their room is Door 20. Jack asks about a toy fitting the description of DP and the sheriff does not recall seeing them. Then the sheriff gives him a suspicious look.

Houses with gardens are given in Bother It’s Gone. The upbeat sheriff encourages them to make the best of Disposable if they must stay. The sheriff gets ready to assign rooms. A lunchbox complains about the smelly food inside it and Scissors says nasty things to it. The sheriff takes Jack and CP to their room. He’s curious about how they were lost. Jack sticks to the cover story. CP adds their owner is a spoiled boy.

The comb is upset so the sheriff sends him upstairs.
Part 3 is about the Land of Disposable.
Ch. 22 The sheriff asks Fingers to play Christmas carols to cheer people up. “O Little Town of Bethlehem” cheers up nobody but that’s exactly what they need to do. There might be an adjustment and something in Living will happen (they need new batteries and they start looking for them). They go to the town Bother It’s Gone.

The sheriff is friendly and much more welcoming than Scissors. They go into a saloon and he introduces everyone. It’s cold and drafty and Jack tries not to shiver. He regrets being to proud to dress warm. It’s easy for disposable things to get lost because they are easily replaced. They are still heartbroken but the sheriff reminds them that one of them could be found at any moment. They hear a wail from the wastes.

Ch. 21 The comb is embarassed to be disposable and the scissors chews him out for complaining. He could be surplus. They are in a place with wooden shacks that look rather drafty. The question I have is this. Does Jack’s stomach work on LIving time or Lost time? The setting is very much like the Old West in America. They see a pair of spectacles who is the sheriff. He takes the group inside for a pep talk.

He says CP smells like nothing. They stop talking. The scissors welcomes them and the sign says, “Welcome to Disposable.” They have left Mislaid.

Ch. 20 Time is different in the Land of the Lost. An hour in Living is a day in Lost. Jack is cold and wet. They move across the wasteland and night begins to fall. They continue to follow the scissors. They must follow orders. They are in the wastes of the unlamented. Surplus, the unloved, and the unwanted live here. DP can’t be there. CP worries what will happen if they discover twins. Jack says they are not alike.

Some things need help mounting and they are ordered by the scissors riding a roller horse to use shoelaces to tie them on. Suddenly, an alarm sounded. Someone is in the wrong place and CP and Jack exchange looks. Anyone who disobeys the rules becomes surplus and the Loser eats surplus. He questions all about being inspected. They all say they have, even Jack. Scissors gives them a grim warning.

Ch. 19 The wooden door opens and they enter. It’s winter. A chilly wind blows. The door shuts and Jack is worried he will be lost forever if he doesn’t find DP. He wonders what the place for the other doors are like and which door DP had gone through. I’m thinking gold because he was much loved. They are walking with other toys and some horsey things arrive. They are told to ride the wicker donkey.

The Loss Adjustor wonders why CP’s already lost. CP explains he’s a replacement. LA says that it’s not unsual for things to go badly for replacements. He’s in good shape so some thrift shop might nab him.

A hole puncher pulls off the manhole cover and tosses in the bunny. The fork says nobody wants him because he’s surplus. Nobody loves him. All are horrified and Jack feels survivor’s guilt. He wishes he would have helped but then he might have been caught and tossed out, too. Everyone talks quietly because they don’t want to get into trouble. The CP got through the Loss Adjustors easier. Alivening is being bought.

Ch. 18 A prisoner creates a commotion that distracts everyone one. The Loss Adjustors, a spoon, and a fork are dragging a tiny blue cuddly bunny covered in mud who is crying out. They pull him to a manhole cover. Jack asks if they are bullying him because he is so muddy. He’s secretly worried about DP. Since everyone is distracted, CP tells Jack to crawl past the Loss Adjustors. The bunny continues to cry out.

CP is worried that Jack’s answers won’t measure up, especially after they rehearse. What will happen if he is caught? Can the Loser eat something that is alive? Jack is not very cooperative and now both Jack and CP are worreied.

Ch. 17 Thousands move to the North Wall. If a shaft. of golden light hits a toy, it will be brought up to the Land of the Living. Loss Adjustors in push them along cruelly. They see three doors: wooden, steel, gold (with green vines). I wonder if they represent Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. LOL Everyone is curious about the golden door. It does look inviting, but could it be false gold. Loss Adjustors ask questions.
