Status Updates From Babysitter

the dread is palpable, perfect. i feared repetition, and there is plenty (as is common w/Oates), but it's never redundant. i love how complex and deeply messy the events are, true to life. as unpleasant as ever, but so tasteful, i don't think i've ever read a more distressing book that i didn't want to put down. there's no sadism, but a deep empathy and undercurrent of understanding for the "imperfect victim".
