My first criticism thus far is that some of the word choices Deane uses don't fit the historical/fantastical feel of the book. "Data" and "international" don't feel right.

Agamemnon and Achilles banged so hard a storm was summoned and sunk a ship.

The vision/dream scenes are gorgeously written.

I kind of like Maya Deane's twist on the mythology. It's kind of like Robert Graves. Graves' mythology wasn't accurate to the original myths, but it was an interesting take that could make alternative worldbuilding.

I do like the dream sequences!

Diomedes and Odysseys are surprisingly accepting of Achilles being a divinely-changed trans woman. Nice.

Wait, did Athena already give her a womb?

Don't know why I didn't clock that Hera was the Queen of Kings.

Off the back, I like the prose so far and this is treating Deidamia better than Song of Achilles did.

If I didn’t have to read this for a class I would’ve dnf this so long ago. I HATE ACHILLES, I HATE THIS BOOK
