The gaudily gilded scroll contained a message of significance, for it was written by the Emperor! What Tiberius might have to say to the incorrigible son of Senator Gallio was anybody's guess. The wayward Legate, according to a freely circulated rumour, had been sent to this ill-conditioned outpost for publicly insulting the Regent, Prince Gaius. And now the Emperor was sending the impudent Marcellus a letter!

"Antipas then dispatched a surprisingly amiable note to David saying he had been advised that there was a charming young woman, said to be a ward of the House of Zadok, who would be warmly welcomed, to which the old lawyer replied that there was no such person in his household."
Antipas, that sly fox. He is suspicious!

Antipas' house party, much to my amusement, is not going well. Now he is planning a house party with Herodias and I know it's going to be a gong show of horrid happenings. 😢😭😥
BUT on a sweet note, the "crippled girl of Cana who was reputed to have a remarkable voice" made me think of Marcellous.

Simon earnestly wished that Jesus were made of tougher stuff! With all that miraculous power at his disposal, why didn't he use some of it to defend himself and his cause; yes, and his friends, too, who were giving up everything for his sake?
Oh Simon!

"It was the first time that Simon had ever issued orders to a crowd.Until now his commands had reached no further than the decks of his fishing smacks & had been obeyed only by his employees.Today he had suddenly become aware of a hitherto unsuspected capacity for compelling the attention & respect of a great throng. They had seemed mystified by it, but no more than Simon himself."

Voldi and Mencius. I am enjoying their dialogue!
"We Romans may be nearing the end of the Fourth Act. Some day, the enslaved provincials will pull our house down." Mencius
Whew! If only Mencius knew how near tue time was for that to happen!

'I shall not expect to see you again. I am old.' Mishma's words were barely audible.'I had dreamed of you as a Councilor. We must give that up now. Whether you find her or not—we have already lost that opportunity. . . . But —I cannot find it in my heart to rebuke you. . . . As I grow older,my ideas of values change. The girl is courageous. Not much wonder if you love her enough to throw your life away for her.'
