I originally read this story as part of “Tailored Realities,” a collection of short stories by Brandon Sanderson. Then I read “Skyward” for my sisters bookclub and realized “Defending Elysium” is “Skyward’s” prequel. I am re-reading this story now that I have more context of the series.
