At this point, I can only reiterate: after the first two tales - from substantially early in her writing career - this has turned into a superior collection of Horror and/or Weird fiction. ‘Couching at the Door’ was another great entry.

Third story, ‘The Window’, is my fave so far - we jumped ahead sixteen years (stories arranged chronologically), and I think I’m now in the hands of a veteran who has found her groove.
