The attention to detail in this book is magnificent, i can only imagine what the author’s notebooks looked like, keeping track of all the ideas

So Alice is in her The Shining era. Should’ve predicted it when she took out the axe

Why is Evie going to the grave? Doesn’t that raise the risk of affecting Pyramus’ skeleton and making the key harder to get?

And now that we’re into the action, I feel weird again. Like I think I preferred the ambiguity, or maybe the characters just aren’t scared enough

God this is so real as a portrayal of anxiety/OCD

I have nothing against Neera as a character, but there’s something about this part that doesn’t sit right with me. I guess I don’t like the thought that everyone except for Marin knew about Evie’s ability?

Trying to just enjoy the vibes and the moment but this is tugging at my heart, the depictions of grief and memory are so sympathetic in this book

Can I take back the previous statement partially, girls I know you’re down and for each other but you are in danger, Alice is right outside, this is not prime time for makeouts you will die

I love how subtle the romance b plot is. It doesn’t feel like the idea for the romance came first and the characters came second, a pitfall lots of ya authors dive into headfirst. It just feels like second nature since we already know who they are

I could see people who were hoping for more paranormal action being and for waiting this long, and people who preferred the grief allegory not liking the twist, but I’m here for both so it’s all good
But oh god if she goes into the graveyard istg

I do wish there had been a bit more foreshadowing for what’s going on with Evie. A lot of the family’s behavior makes sense now that we know the secret (of course she avoids graveyards!) but aside from the dead animals on the property and the teeth thing, this book hasn’t been very paranormal. Up until here it was focused more on the grief aspect. Which is fine, but it is a twist

Found a print error on this page, there’s a sentence that doesn’t end with any punctuation :( but the quality of the prose for this scene is good, that’s the only mistake

Some fascinating slow/atmospheric horror, but it’s more mystery/tragedy for the most part. I think the first chapter is misleading, it’s more about grief than anything else really

Not sure if it’s intentional, but Marin seems to be OCD-coded to me

I like the vibes and setting so far! It’s calm, but spooky

I think I’ll love this or hate this, it could go either way.
