Status Updates From Inciting Joy: Essays

Feels like I'm finally kind of adapted to the writing style.

Here's some vernacular in "Greif Salute" within one paragraph:
"shitty look", "the culture", "enforcement of norms" "lop his finger off" and "tore his achilles".

It's such a conversational style laced with profanity and violence.

I'm now fairly adjusted to Ross Gay's provocateur-type writing. I think of him now as more Eddie Murphy than Joan Didion.

"fruit for all" might be his best chapter overall. Making a garden does bring joy. It builds community.

I share his feeling that "thousands of birds take flight in my chest" when I make something new.

Just opened up and already multiple hot takes. He's even apologizing and admitting he's losing us.

Came back to this one to try and finish it for book club. I'm trying to ignore his radical opinions. He says some truly bananas stuff.

I am finding this so very tedious, which is rather shocking, considering how much I loved both his Books of Delights. Not sure I’m going to finish this.
