Wow I AM DETECTIVE 🕵‍♀️

First story is unnecessarily convoluted.

I've just finished the second story here and about to start the last one. I have mixed feelings here. The style is like the stories of Auguste Dupin (Poe) which I couldn't stand and nearly died of boredom while reading. At least here the main character is interesting and while he sort of pulls the solutions out of his well-educated head, at least they're exotic and arcane enough to hold my interest.

Cool -- a pot-smoking detective from 1895. You really don't see that too often in British Victorian crime novels.
