I was already thinking ahead.
The butcher knxves were in the drawer next to the sink.
The cast iron skillet was sitting in the dish rack.
The toaster was still hot and right on top of the counter.
His pxstol was in his holster. Right side.

I had enough things close by to make it out of this house alive.

It has become a page turner at this point. Loving the character development and the historial immersion is strong.

It’s beginning to pick up. Glad I stuck it out.

Technically, I knew this was going to be a slower read for me but the fact that I’m only on page 50 in two days says a lot.

In full transparency, I think since Jim Crow is so strongly represented in the book, I’ve been taking nibbles of it instead of bites.

But I’m pushing through. The writing and the story is keeping me locked in and I just fell in love with one of the early characters.
