Status Updates From House of Hunger

I like that Marion is a protagonist with a backbone, who voices her opinions & advocates for herself as best she can. If she didn’t, this novel would feel YA. I enjoy adult novels for the agency & outspokenness of their characters (generally speaking).

I’m enjoying the premise & atmosphere. A vampiric Cinderella story where a young woman living in poverty is selected to become fancy, regal, & prim. The “vampires” seem to not be supernatural in this story, but rather humans who feed on blood for (real?) health purposes. Real history has bloodletting to be rid of diseases; this is sort of the reverse.

Interesting premise of young women signing up to be indentured servants to vampires. When the blood maids retire with pension, are they turned into vampires themselves?
