An emotional and promising prologue, followed by chapters of poor characterization and awkward pacing. Also, I know unreliable narrators are a thing, but can there be unreliable authors? Because I feel like I can’t form my own opinions and feelings about characters or past events. Instead, the author’s forcing me to accept her intended narrative for everything, which is stifling as a reader.
