Status Updates From The Opera Sisters

The sections read like scenes from a movie. I confess that empathy for the characters living the trauma that was WE2 Europe has pulled me in so that I can hardly put the book down. Marianne Monson gives us some rich language in her narrative, though in places it feels contrived.

“Some say he’s using hyperbole, but idle words have an alarming way of morphing into action.”

Reading part of a pre-concert lecture the sisters attend in Salzburg, I wonder if the timing is right for a revival of Beethoven’s Fidelio.
