in mid chpt 25, the muddy boot prints that the uncle & older brother tracked into the clean floor of the community center symbolized all the family dynamics of the Lees. Wow! Grear scene! & then the fallout afterwards revealed even more about each character.

I adore this book & all the characters so far. The Chinese diaspora fascinates me, esp the Singaporean & Malaysian ones who have the British influence.

Vivid characters. Slow pace.
