This isn’t holding me. Sysdney Rye feels a bit empty. The plot is too much like Nancy Drew and the Secrets of the BDSM Club. The sense of place is stong. The ddialogue is realistic. But this isn’t working for me a mystery or a thriller.

Most of this works but, so far, it’s neither a mystery that I can try to solve nor a page-turning thriller. The pace is starting to sag.
I like the time taken to establish Joy as a real person but I have very little insight into what she wants or feera - which I mage have in common with her.
Thei dialogue between Joy and other women and between Joy and her brother feels real. The main detective’s line feel off
