So many characters all with different backstories that themselves have more characters, it's almost impossible to keep track of all the names, I almost wish I started some kind of chart earlier on, but I'm trusting Grossman to steer this one in the right direction, pretty sure the main character is Russia and any confusion is deliberate. The sequel to this book "Life and Fate" is supposed to be the masterpiece.

Been sitting on my shelf far too long. Time to crack into this behemoth. Nothing says fall/winter read like a 900 page novel of Russian soldiers in WWII. We are so back!
