The writing is lively and Lily is a really compelling character with her coming of age. However the other themes of race and hints of womanhood and religiosity just really doesn’t work for me.
I really enjoy Lily navigating the abuse and guilt but then there’s just off putting (at least to me) mentions of Blackness in a way that takes me out of it. But I definitely see why it’s good, just doesn’t work for me
