I love Norse mythology and music so, naturally, I'm loving this

The authors are struggling describing the music.

Ellie closes her eyes to fully appreciate the sensuous tones thrumming through her body, from within and without. Behind those closed eyes she sees the shapes all around her, ambiguous fleeting shadows that grow more solid with each beat. They do not dance. But they do flow.

...this is suppose to be suspenseful, a lead up to a horrific moment and it's falling flat.

The reviews that point out this is written in a whimsical tone, also comes across as ya are true.

This isn't hitting

Now he welcomed the shadowy cover of the old trees, the whisper and rustle of leaves even though the hot air was heavy and dead, the steady thump-thump of the festival beyond the hill sounding like a frantic heartbeat, and the smells of the forest. He’d been to a hundred woodlands in his lifetime, maybe more, but none of them felt like Valhalla.

More description, this is what I mean, it's not letting up

The descriptions are bothering me:

Nettles kissed his bare shins and calves and left their familiar tingling sensation behind, soon to develop into a more painful itch.

I'd never describe brushing past a nettle as it 'kissing my skin

I'm not liking this. The writing comes across as amateur and it's giving self-published vibes

Makes me want to rewatch The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio.

I've been trying to find horror novels with a music festival setting and this is the only one I've been able to find.

The movie Midsommer (2019) was recced to me. Premise is a couple travels to Sweden for a festival, they end up in a cult that says they practice paganism.
