Status Updates From The Case for Cancel Culture...

This idea helps show that mainstream media has altered what the public thinks about cancel culture. Cancel culture is more about "self-preservation" than general criticism.

It may seem like cancel culture is new, but this is simply the latest manifestation of an ongoing battle between the oppressed and the oppressor that we've witnessed throughout history" (24). Owens mentions different ways that cancel culture has been used in the past, like the Boston Tea Party. This helps prove his point about the oppressed and the oppressor.

As I continue reading how both the left and the right cancel themselves and each others, I figured it's best not to have an opinion at all...

However, it seems that if you have enough "status", you can survive even being canceled.

I didn't know about Phyllis Schlafly and the STOP ERA movement.

What I do not like is how the author framed this woman as leading "one of the fiercest oppositions to women's rights in American history", because, from Schlafly's perspective, STOP ERA was about preserving Women's rights and priviledges, such as being excluded from draft, losing alimony, or child custody.

Perspective is key here.

I keep struggling to read this, specially the arguments about the republican (conservatives) v Democrat (progressives) divide and the implications about "good vs evil".

Sometimes, it's hard to follow the book because it assumes you share certain core values in life, or know about US politics and what's happening (or happened) there.
