I just want to make a quick note that I strongly dislike these double standards. Jeanine confesses to Anne that she slapped Brad and has "never lost my cool like that." Anne's response? "Then he's never inspired it before." (Page 159). Seriously? Imagine if two men were having this conversation about slapping a woman? It's not ok. Don't victim-blame someone when you lose your temper!

Jeanine needs to quit her job with the dentist. The way he is treating his employees is nauseating (pg. 68). He is offering them "earned bonuses" according to who gets the best patient ratings. He calls it a friendly competition, but it's a recipe for sabotage. And one hygienist received a "most-teeth-extracted bonus"??? This dentist sounds corrupt. Jeanine, it's not worth it!!!! Find a different job!!!

I noticed a lot of poor writing mistakes today. The biggest issue was on page 61 with the repetition of "navigating the mobs in the hallway." This book could use some more revision, which is surprising because the title page indicates this manuscript is the third edition. If you ever self-publish, be sure to hire a good proofreader!

Why does western culture seem to discourage a quiet, simple life, pressuring us to pursue excitement and adventure? Why do we live in fear of wasting our potential, wasting our lives? Yes, Maslow's hierarchy of needs includes self-actualization, but I doubt Maslow intended for us to feel shame and inadequacy when this need isn't met. So what is self-actualization, and what are realistic expectations?
