Eiesland's analysis of suffering and limitations griefs to wrestle with and not a tragedy to bemoan is clear sighted and unsentimental. It certainly pushes against the popular notions of the heroic person that infect faith narratives.

okay this was a tough read, SO dense and academically written - ironically inaccessible!! but once through the boring and kinda pointless first half, the second half is actually pretty damn good. wish the whole book was about that part, glad i read it glad im done reading it
