A character is being described “…as nervous as a rat 🐀”, and unfortunately I suffer from an anxiety disorder so I am unfortunately going to have to DNF.

I am going to try to finish this chapter, but why the actual heck is the R-word being used as a verb to describe the weather?!!!

The face she lifted to her dancers was the same which, when she saw him, always looked like a window that has caught the sunset. He even noticed two or three gestures which, in his fatuity, he had thought she kept for him: a way of throwing her head back when she was amused, as if to taste her laugh before she let it out, and a trick of sinking her lids slowly when anything charmed or moved her.

He seemed a part of the mute melancholy landscape, an incarnation of its frozen woe, with all that was warm and sentient in him fast bound below the surface; but there was nothing unfriendly in his silence. I simply felt that he lived in a depth of moral isolation too remote for casual access, that his loneliness was not merely the result of his personal plight, but the profound accumulated cold of many Stfd winters.

The R-word is used so I am going to take a break from this book for awhile.
