...This is pretty much how I feel about this book. Sorry I don't wanna be mean but this was not an enjoyable read at all. The least bad about it is that I finished it...

Here is an indirect confirmation that Clay isn't straight but rather gay, and had known he's gay since before the events of this book. So again, why would he go along with Lennie's exploitation of a gay couple like this? Then again, just because someone is gay doesn't automatically make them a good ethical person.

...The very next page: "Because Thom didn't show at all."

Or that option too. Although if I had to pick someone to be MIA, I would've picked Clay.

"Maybe Thom would show up to the wedding today and say all the things Clay wanted him to say. [...] Maybe he’d refuse to marry Clay."

Well that was my guess too. But if it's written here then it probably isn't happening. I don't think the author is foreshadowing. Maybe it'll be Ashley finally coming out of the woodwork. Or Kerry or Felicia. This book will be truly irredeemable if the wedding actually does happen.

[Following up on my 88% update].

Well this is when everything I discussed about Clay's parents was finally addressed. And in one paragraph too! Consider me satisfied.

(by the by, I'm being sarcastic, not just here but in practically every other update I wrote for this book)

For someone so close to his family, Clay's parents have been suspiciously absent throughout this (few pages long) engagement. Surely they would've insisted on meeting Thom. Heck even a video call! And aren't they gonna be attending? Isn't Clay's mom or his grandma at all suspicious of how everything is going down and how unlike Clay (from the little we've been told about his relationship with his family) all this is?

"Because of course he wanted to marry Thom."

I don't get it... when did all this falling in love happen?? 'Cause so far all the lovey-dovey feelings were part of the "tell", and all the "show" was the ridicule and scorn that Thom had towards Clay. He'd always say something terrible but it's okay cause he smiles at Clay! *swoon*

God damn Lennie and her bleeding heart of gold. So sweet.

Shouldn't Clay’s lawyers be there for the deposition too? And is there a reason they're doing this in his office, not his lawyers’ as I believe is standard practice and is less public for Clay, other than to have had Thom defending his honour or whatever romantic thing you wanna call it?

Is there a real life couple that shows affection by sucking face? Why do a lot of romance books have this? The better indicator of love is how they seek each other and look at each other in moments of celebration (just look at how many celebrities give a simple peck or just a kiss on the cheek or even just a hug), not how much of one person’s tongue is down the other’s throat.

That’s right! Now watch how Ashley herself or someone who knows her is gonna reveal that they were dating and had just broken up earlier that day. And then Thom would either have to settle for being found out as a cheater or (truthfully) a liar. And of course Lennie will throw him under the bus and leave him to suffer the consequences of her terrible beliefs and actions.

If any of the people in that room, were good they’d have shut down that idea and told their precious press about how Lennie is homophobe after all. She’s not an in-your-face one but a “I can’t be homophobic because I have gay friends” kind of bigot. And if it turns out that Clay, who was implied to be non-hetero with him complementing Thom’s looks, knows he’s not straight and he went along with this…

Okay so Lennie (who instead of redeeming herself in the few pages since has only been more and more abhorrent), unfairly blamed Thom for what she said, at which Thom in a continued display of bad character proceeded to blame and bully Clay (who had absolutely nothing to do with anything). And turns out Clay is the other MC.

How lovely is it that that’s how their love story starts? /s 🫠🤢

👍👏👌 awesome; their boss is insufferable too. And is she seriously blaming what she said on the fact that she spent 16 hours on a plane?! And blaming Thom for putting her on said plane?! Does she or does she not want to become the US president? smh this book better get good, and fast.

Okay so I read the blurb a while ago… Thom is obviously an MC, but is Clay the other one? Cause so far (I’m up to where Clay shows them the article), they are both insufferable. Please let the MCs of this book be good, otherwise where would the joy of reading come from?
