This is my first dance with Frank Conroy, and can he cut a rug!
With a writing style similar to Amor Towles, that predates Towles by a couple decades, I had to wonder if Conroy's work influenced Towles writing. A brief internet search has revealed no connection or association between the two authors.

Getting a Long Books Challenge (LBC) jump-start on this Historical Fiction novel about a musical prodigy coming of age in Brooklyn, New York. The story opens as the U.S. is celebrating 'Victory in Europe Day' (VE Day) on 8 May 1945. A celebration that marked the formal acceptance by the Allies in World War II of Germany's unconditional surrender, thereby ending the war in Europe.
