I literally cried reading the brutal end of Hammir Dev Chauhan and his family. It is so easy to read and imagine but I cannot fathom the reality of such an atrocity. Also Maharani Padmini's sacrifice always tears me up but also fills me with so much strength. She is exactly what SHAKTI or Devi means in Hindu scriptures.

My fav part was when the two sisters (daughters of Dahir), Surya Devi and Premala Devi, who had been presented as sex slaves to the Caliph, tricked the Caliph into believing that Muhammad bin Qasim has violated them before sending them. This made the Caliph angry and he killed Qasim of suffocation. They secured retribution for their father's death as well as their own disrespect.

Only read the preface and I'm glad I picked a non-fiction after all the hell I went through bcs of Tella and Tara. This book speaks for the real history and real heroes of our land whose stories had been falsified and distorted throughout years. I love how irritated the writer sounds bcs that is the emotion which I feel when I think how we have been brainwashed all these years.
